Regular workouts and fitness regimens help your skin in feeling fresh and glowing. However, people unknowingly make certain skincare mistakes that are responsible for not letting your skin breathe. This is the reason why you might be missing out on your post-workout glow. 


While exercising you tend to sweat a lot. Sweat, dirt, and oil block your pores and cause the skin to break out. Therefore it is imperative to follow a proper skincare routine pre, during, and post-workout. Read to know more.

Pre-workout skincare routine:

Remove makeup

Make-up and workout sweats can clog your pores. It is one of the primary reasons for your skin to break out and pimples to pop. It is very important to wipe off makeup before you start working out.


After you have removed makeup, it is also important to clean your face using a mild cleanser. Your makeup remover might remove your makeup but cleanse your face to ensure that there is no residue left that can clog your pores. 


Exercising can make you sweat more than usual, which can cause dehydration. It is important to remain hydrated for healthy and clear skin. Apply moisturizer immediately after cleansing.


You should never skip SPF! Especially when you engage in an outdoor exercise like running, jogging, or cycling. Even if you are walking to your gym, don't forget to apply sunscreen before you leave. 

Apply an antiperspirant:

It is quite obvious that your body is going to sweat a lot during exercising. Protect your underarms from inviting bacteria, germs, and odor. Apply antiperspirant roll-on before working out. 

During workout skincare routine:

Avoid touching your face

Germs and bacteria from the workout equipment can cause your skin to break out or have bacterial infections. While working out, try to consciously keep your hands off your face. 

Wipe off the sweat: 

Try to get rid of the dripping sweat from your face as soon as you can. This will help in avoiding bacteria from setting in your pores. Use a soft towel and pat on the skin to wipe off the sweat. Don't wipe or rub clothes hard against your face as it can lead to rashes and itchiness. 

Hydrate yourself:

Keep taking small sips of water during your workout. If you do not drink enough water, you may experience dehydration, dry mouth, or lack of sweating. 

Post-workout skincare routine:


The immediate first thing you do post your workout routine is to wash your face. Don't sit with a sweaty face to let bacteria trap in your skin and clog pores. Splash cold water and wash your face with a cleanser to get rid of sweat, oil, and dirt.

Take a shower:

One of the most overlooked parts after working out is your body. Don't sit in your sweaty clothes as you will risk getting a bacterial infection. After cooling off, hit the showers and change into clean clothes.

Moisturise your face:

Due to excessive body heat from exercise, the skin can be flushed, red, and dehydrated. Apply a gentle moisturizer after cleaning up.

Don't forget your SPF:

After applying a moisturizer, top it off with a good SPF. SPF is a must step as it guards your skin against UV rays and other environmental stressors.
